เรือพระที่นั่งสุพรรณหงส์ ลำปัจจุบัน สร้างขึ้นใหม่ในสมัยรัชกาลที่ 6 เมื่อพุทธศักราช 2454 โดยตั้งชื่อตามเรือพระที่นั่งโบราณของสมเด็จพระมหาจักรพรรดิแห่งกรุงศรีอยุธยา คือ เรือศรีสุพรรณหงส์ หรือ เรือพระที่นั่งชัยสุพรรณหงส์ สร้างขึ้นเมื่อพุทธศักราช 2091
ในสมัยกรุงศรีอยุธยาตอนปลาย มีชื่อเรือพระที่นั่ง สุวรรณหงส์ สมัยรัชกาลที่ 1 (พุทธศักราช 2325 - 2352) ปรากฏชื่อเรือพระที่นั่ง สุวรรณหงส์ และ รัชกาลที่ 3 (พุทธศักราช 2367 - 2394) ปรากฏชื่อเรือพระที่นั่ง ศรีสุพรรณหงส์
หัวเรือพระที่นั่งนี้มีโขนเรือรูปหัวของหงส์ ลำตัวเรือทอดยาวคือส่วนตัวหงส์ จำหลักไม้ลงรักปิดทองประดับกระจกมีพู่ห้อย ปลายพู่เป็นแก้วผลึก ภายนอกทาสีดำ ท้องเรือทาสีแดง
ตอนกลางลำเรือมีที่ประทับเรียก ราชบัลลังก์กัญญา สำหรับพระเจ้าอยู่หัวหรือพระราชวงศ์ชั้นสูง
เรือมีความยาว 46.15 เมตร กว้าง 3.17 เมตร ลึกจนถึงท้องเรือ 94 เซนติเมตร กินน้ำลึก 41 เซนติเมตร น้ำหนัก 15 ตัน
ใช้กำลังพลประกอบด้วย ฝีพาย 50 คน นายเรือ 2 คน นายท้าย 2 คน คนถือธงท้าย 1 คน พลสัญญาณ 1 คน คนถือฉัตร 7 คน คนขานยาว 1 คน
คนขานยาวทำหน้าที่ในการร้องขานเพลงเรือโดยฝีพายจะร้องเห่เรือพร้อมกันไปตามจังหวะร่วมกับเรือลำอื่น ๆ
เรือพระที่นั่งสุพรรณหงส์ได้รับรางวัลยกย่องให้เป็นเรือมรดกโลก จากองค์กรที่เรียกว่า World Ship Trust เมื่อพุทธศักราช 2535
The Royal Barge Suphannahong was built anew in 1911 in the reign of King Vajiravudh, deriving the name from the royal barge Sri Suphannahong of King Maha Chakkaphat of Ayutthaya, built in 1548,
or from Chai Suphanahong or Suvannahong of the late Ayutthaya period, or from Suvannahong of King Rama I (reigned 1782 – 1809), or from Sri Suphannahong of King Rama III (reigned 1824 – 1851).

The bow is made into a head of ha?sa, carved with gilded lacquer and mirrored glass decoration and a crystalline ball and tassels dangling from his mouth.
The hull is painted black outside and red inside. In the middle of the barge is placed a pavilion in which there is a throne called ratcha-banlang-kanya (Pali: raja-palla?ka-kaññ?).
This pavilion was built to house the king and his immediate royal family. The length of the barge is 46.15 meters and the width at the beam 3.17 meters.
The depth of the hull is 94 centimeters and the draught is 41 centimeters. Its displacement is 15 tons. It is manned by fifty oarsmen with two steersmen, two officers fore and aft,
one standard bearer, one signalman, seven Royal Chatras bearers and one chanter. The chanter is the singing leader of the boat song and the oarsmen chant rhythmically in unison together with the chanter on each barge.
